The American Cancer Society’s (ACS) “We can, We should, We will, Conquer Cancer” campaign is mobilizing support to include cancer in the global health agenda. As part of the campaign, ACS is selecting ‘Global Journalist Fellows’ and ‘Global Cancer Ambassadors’ to ensure the impact of the United Nations historic High-Level Meeting on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) to be held in September, 2011.
The American Cancer Society is looking for qualified journalists to participate in a Global Journalist Fellowship from June 18-21, 2011.
The ACS will host the Global Journalist Fellows in New York City, from the 18th to the 21st June, where they will:
Learn from world leading experts about the latest developments in cancer and tobacco control.
Understand the significance of the U.N. High-Level Meeting on NCDs and learn about the latest political developments.
Hear from international journalists who cover the U.N.
Have the opportunity to interview key opinion leaders in the field of cancer, tobacco and global health.
Meet with ‘Global Cancer Ambassadors’ from their country or region and access personal stories about cancer. The American Cancer Society will be hosting global cancer advocates and survivors from 45 different countries (‘Global Cancer Ambassadors’) who will be meeting with their U.N. mission representatives (June 20th and 21st) to share their cancer story and put forward key ‘policy asks’ from the UN High-Level Meeting.
Attend a press conference at the U.N.
Selected journalists will need to be fluent in English as workshops and interviews with key opinion leaders will be conducted in English. The Society will cover your travel arrangements. Special consideration will be given to applicants from the following countries:
